Gypsum-bonded particleboard is being produced in Scandinavia in plants that utilize the semi-dry process. This process is advantageous because it allows the use of industrial gypsum, which is a by-product from many chemical processes. Modulus of rupture values for gypsum-bonded particleboard are generally higher than those of gypsum fiberboard or plasterboard and generally lower than those for cement- or resin-bonded boards. Gypsum-bonded particleboards are not alkaline, they possess superior linear stability, and they perform better than other wood composite boards when exposed to fire.
