Residual levels of chloropicrin were investigated in Douglas-fir poles that had received remedial fumigant treatment 1, 3, 5, and 7 years earlier. Cores were removed and extracted for gas chromatographic analysis. Chloropicrin decreased gradually over the 7 years, although the levels did not appear to be uniform with time. Chemical levels were highest in the inner zone nearest the original treatment site and from there declined outward and upward. The results indicate that chloropicrin remains at high levels in poles long after treatment and should provide excellent protection.
