A short description is given of modern drum sanders. These machines operate with either 1200 rpm drum speeds or 1800 rpm drum speeds, depending on the type of work. Freedom from vibration is obtained by dynamic balancing of the moving parts and through the use of a heavy cast-iron base. Adequate exhaust facilities are very important. If the dust is not properly exhausted, it will settle down onto the bed. It may also work its way down into the feeding mechanism and interfere with smooth feeding. A power-driven brush continuously cleaning the bed is a desirable feature.
