Drying End Point Determination During High-Temperature Drying

Drying end point for slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelm. var. elliottii) during high temperature kiln drying can be determined by monitoring core temperature of sample boards. This method has been used in two commercial size kiln runs and can be used in any kiln equipped with six thermocouples and a temperature monitoring device. The thermocouple output can be used for automatic termination of the drying process when the desired moisture content is reached.
