Red oak, yellow birch, and sweetgum in 2 cm. square specimens were tested in static and impact bending in green condition and after 2 months air-drying at 75?F. and 65 percent RH. Dynamic loading gave higher values of modulus of rupture by about 40 percent, of`modulus of elasticity of 14 percent, and extreme fiber stress at proportional limit and work to proportional limit by 86 percent. Work to maximum load was about 20 percent higher under dynamic test. Most of the paper is divided into description of the experimental technique and instrumentation used in the dynamic testing.
