This project presents a case study analysis of the production of red oak dimension squares from Prime, No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 grade logs. The processing facility integrates a specialized sawmill, dimension plant, and a radio-frequency vacuum dry kiln. Analysis shows the log costs, production and grade recovery, and relative financial profitability from different log grades. Current material and processing costs and product price structures suggest Prime and No. 1 logs can be more profitably processed than No. 2 and No. 3 logs.
