A brief overview is presented of some of the economic factors affecting the manufacture of structural composite panels consisting of a reconstituted core and veneer faces. Emphasis is placed on core manufacture since core cost appears to be a key factor in the potential success of the composite panel. Cost analysis indicates that raw materials constitute a major portion of the total manufacturing costs. Based on estimated demand and production figures for construction panel products, there is an apparent opportunity for composite products; however, no simple check list exists to determine if a particular manufacturer should proceed with implementation of the composite process.
