This study reveals that high-temperature drying has a significantly higher lumber grade yield with only a slightly (yet significantly) higher shrinkage rate than conventional drying. It has been shown in past work that high-temperature drying gives increased productivity and uses less energy than conventional drying. These two benefits coupled with increased grade yield could make retrofitting with high-temperature kilns a profitable venture.
