Effect of High-Temperature Drying on the Strength of Southern Pine Dimension Lumber

The strength, stiffness, and toughness of southern pine 2- by 6-inch dimension lumber dried at high temperature were compared with similar lumber dried conventionally. High-temperature drying had no deleterious effect on the MOR, MOE, or toughness of either No. 1 Dense Grain or No. 2 Medium Grain lumber. Values determined by static bending and toughness testing are reported.
