In an effort to improve sawmill efficiency, several Black Hills sawmill operators installed resaws back of their circular saw headrigs. To evaluate the results, operating time, grade recovery, sawing accuracy, and other factors were measured at four sawmills. The results reported here are a part of a larger study made in cooperation with the four sawmills. The resaws improved sawmill efficiency through increased production rates. Little improvement resulted from the installation of a vertical circular resaw.
