In this discussion of engineering for particleboard plants the author warns that anyone planning to build or improve a particleboard plant should seek advice from experienced personnel and should travel as much as possible to observe plants under production situations to gain insight into the strong and weak points of each of the many systems in operation. Following a brief description of the basic manufacturing processes for producing particleboard, the author reviews 1) estimation of wood requirements, 2) determination of the number and size of flaking machines required, 3) re- suited capacity and type of driers, 4) steam requirements, 5) glue mixers, 6) forming stations, 7) pre-press systems, 8) hot presses, 9) trimming, 10) finishing equipment, 11) electrical consumption, and 12) continuous recording controls.
