A formula for predicting equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of wood without interpolation of tabular data or computer storage of large masses of data would be useful in controlling wood product quality. The formula presented is based on the Hailwood and Horrobin sorption theory. The analysis is based on sorption data in USDA Handbook 72. When the formula is used to calculate EMC from temperature and relative vapor pressure, the average deviation of the calculated values from the published values is less than 0.13 percent moisture content, and the deviation is never more than 0.9 percent moisture content.
