The potential of particleboard as an engineering material is being more widely explored. Realization of this potential is coupled to the evaluation of the material’s engineering properties, including shear behavior. Since panel thickness is a major variable in structural design, the capacity to evaluate the shear properties of all panel thicknesses must be available. Present standard test methods for evaluating shear performance are not appropriate for thick structural particleboards. This paper suggests practical alternate test methods.
