The objective of this research project was to evaluate the strength of several different types of mechanical connections using foreign lumber, dahurian larch from the Russian Far East. Nail, screw, and metal-plate connections were tested to determine strength and stiffness. Dowel being strength (DBS) was also determined. When compared to published DBS values, dahurian larch is similar to the spruce-pine-fir species group. All other connection values compared well to published design values for similar specific gravity and connection types.
