Scanning electron micrographs illustrate the contact between imbedded plastic-polymer coated nails and wood (southern pine and oak). In the micrographs, the coating can be observed adhering to the wood, and the thickness of the coating which adhered to the wood after removal of the nail can also be observed. Plastic-polymer coated nails had an average withdrawal resistance 2.7 times that of matched noncoated nails during a 2-year test period.
