The U.S. forest products industry has traditionally emphasized domestic rather than foreign markets. With increasing recognition that foreign markets provide additional profit opportunities and now account for over 10 percent of U.S. production, more attention in the United States is being paid to international trade of forest products. This paper presents an overview of U.S. solid wood trade and analyzes some of the advantages of participating in that trade.
