Increasing quantities of furniture and cabinets are being constructed with the use of reconstituted wood products and knock down fasteners such as threaded metal inserts. Withdrawal strengths for fine and coarse threaded metal inserts as well as fine and coarse threaded knock-in types are presented for medium density fiberboard, particleboard, and oriented strandboard. Regression equations fitted to the data can adequately predict face withdrawal strength for the threaded inserts based on insert diameter and length as well as the internal bond strength of the board. Insert length is more critical than diameter or internal bond.
