Extenders for plywood glues vary in the ability to build viscosity and hold glues to the surface of veneers. Furafil type extenders body very slowly, causing increases of viscosity with time. Furafil extenders made from various materials (oat, corncob, and rice residues), as well as extenders made from barks and clays, were tested. It was determined that factors such as particle size, drying temperature, weight consistency, moisture content, and resin composition, were not as important as the inherent chemical nature of these materials in determining their effectiveness.
