A concept is presented tor finger jointing sheets of veneer into long lengths based on impression finger jointing. A possible method is described for carrying out each step in the finger jointing, process. Continuous production of long-length veneer would make possible the fabrication of long-length plywood, either continuously or in long flat- platen presses. Long-length plywood offers important design and fabrication advantages in structures and potential cost savings in plywood manufacture. Experimental plywood panels have demonstrated the structural adequacy of impression finger joints in the face plies of plywood. Modulus of rupture of narrow plywood panels containing finger joints in the face plies stressed in tension averaged approximately 9,000 psi which was 100 percent of the average of the low side of the unjointed panels.
