First Minehunter Made of Laminated Preserved Timber Launched

Preserved pressure-treated laminated and solid timbers were the major construction materials for the mine sweeper U.S.S. Bittern. Wolman salts and a copper-bearing chemical were used for preservative depending on location of wood used in the ship.
