Teflon-S non-stick, self-lubricating finishes are combinations of tetrafluoroethylene and binders. They are applied by conventional means and cured at temperatures from 450?F to 700?F. This chemically inert finish has a water absorption rate of less than 4 percent, a static coefficient of friction of from 0.08 to 0.15 and a service temperature range of approximately -50?F to 500?F. This finish reduces resin buildups resulting in less burning of the cut and minimizes hot spots on the blade. Intervals between blade sharpenings are increased by 50 percent or more. Time required to cut through identical cross sections is reduced by 25 percent, but significant power savings have not been documented. Costs for custom application of this finish range from 50 cents to $1.50 per square foot while coatings applied as part of the manufacturing process add 10 percent to 25 percent to the cost of the product.
