Fuel values were determined for stems and branches in three hardwood species: white oak, yellow-poplar, and sweetgum. A significant difference was found between the higher heating value of the stemwood and branchwood of white oak. Otherwise, no difference in higher heating value was detected due to position in tree, position in branch, branch position in tree, and wood versus bark.
