Of 15 commonly available chemicals, two were effective in killing all oak wilt fungi in stems 3 to 4 inches in diameter and 8 inches long. The oak test specimens were infected with 21 days exposure to the fungus and then fumigated in a closed container at atmospheric pressure for 3-days. Chloropicrin and methyl bromide were the only chemicals completely successful with a 7-day treatment. The tests show promise of treatment of oak wilt infested veneer logs or other large oak timbers that are now restricted from import by some countries.
