Describes the shaping of a mixture of 20 to 140 mesh wood particles and synthetic binder into a useful article in a metal mold under heat and pressure. The resin content is in the range of 10 to 35 percent, the molding temperature 300? to 375?F., the pressure 500 to 1500 psi. A mixture of this type lacks flow and has a high bulk factor. It is used for toilet seats, chair backs, croquet balls, shuffleboard discs, and the like. Process variables, such as specific gravity, resin content, mesh size, and molding temperature, are discussed with relation to their influence on the cure cycle, water absorption, impact strength, and screw-holding power.
