Governing Equations for Timber Shell Structures

A development of the governing equations for timber shell structures made of several layers of lumber is presented. Equations for strength and elasticity are established first. The theory of a layered system is next derived. Stress-strain relations for particular arrangements of layers are developed and equilibrium equations and strain-displacement relations are then combined with, the stress-strain equations in order to establish the governing equations for timber shells. Development and application possibilities are stressed. Solution methods are described briefly and reference to other treatments are given.
