The effect of preservative treatment on tangential surface side hardness was investigated, following procedures of ASTM Standard D143-52, on matched samples of Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine treated with ACA, CCA-C, and penta-petroleum. None of the tested preservative treatments exerted a statistically significant effect.
