A total of 5,832 simulated log sawings were performed on an electronic computer and the resultant lumber yields presented in the form of a factorial analysis. Tables show the effect on lumber yield of such log factors as diameter, length, and taper, and the effect of such sawing factors as board thickness, kerf width, edging method, and sawing method. The effect of the more important interactions of these factors is discussed and applications to real sawmill situations are suggested.
