This article presents, in cook book manner, a method for predicting time periods required to heat veneer logs to a desired cutting temperature. The method uses a set of nondimensional heating time charts applicable to most wood species and moisture contends, all log and core diameters, and all initial temperatures above and below the freezing point. The charts apply to long logs (lengths of at least four times their diameter) heated in steam or agitated water; times for heating in nonagitated water are about five to ten percent longer.
