The lumber industry is faced with problems in material handling, production, engineering, equipment, and marketing. A panel of members the Pacific Northwest Section, FPRS, discussed these problems and how research and development can help solve them. Research is needed on mill lighting, materials handling on chains and belts, education of maintenance personnel, safety and fire, equipment obsolescence, instrumentation, record keeping and cost accounting, power supply, production and seasoning, and operation of both small and large sawmills.
