Veneer recovery from individual peeler blocks can easily be determined under plant production conditions by a simple color coding system to indentify the veneer. A series of paint or dye spray nozzles are mounted directly over the veneer at the outfeed side of the lathe to provide a continuous stripe of one or more colors on the green veneer. A few distinct colors that will not fade out in the veneer dryers are sufficient to provide a color code system that can be used for an unlimited number of blocks.
