An improved technique for determining volume to compute specific gravity of large irregularly shaped blocks of wood is described. The method requires one adapted balance and one operator instead of two balances and two operators as required previously. Advantages of this technique over the earlier method include doubling the number of volume determinations per man-hour; greater operator efficiency; greater accuracy; and only minor balance adaption.
