During the year there has been a further increase in the installation of barkers, mostly in the smaller mills in Eastern Canada and in the eastern and southern States. Twin saws, or Scrag Saws as they are called in the Northwest, are becomming more popular. A new item, known as the Chip-N-Saw, consists of four chipping heads, followed by four circular saws in line. Shipping lumber in the form of packages is one recognized method of reducing handling costs. Also during the year there has been increased use of closed circuit TV for monitoring conveyors, fuel bunkers, and other outlying areas of the plant.
