New York established 90 decibels as the human threshold noise level. They consider a noise level of over 90 as being injurious. In a study of 580 plant locations nearly 95 percent recorded noise levels exceeding 100 decibels. Noise must be controlled. Several means of noise control are possible. Designing and manufacturing less noisy machines, isolating noisy operations, and providing ear protectors are only a few. It was suggested that all new employees receive hearing tests to establish a comparison in the event of future claims.
