The type of equipment and training, needed to comply with the Dept. of Labor’s current occupational noise standards is relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain. Basic equipment includes a standard sound-level meter and a sound-level calibrator. Noise exposure meters and impact noise analyzers may be necessary under certain circumstances to evaluate special noise areas and special noise problems. Recommendations on availability and operation of basic equipment are given.
