Updated U. S. Forest Service statistics on wood use in mobile homes, combined with Forest Service research on factors affecting regional distribution of mobile homes, provides information on regional consumption expectations for wood products industry planners. Population characteristics (number of persons, population per square mile, and rate of population change) were found to influence mobile home distribution patterns among states and regions. Projected production of mobile homes for the 1971-75 period indicates a use of more than 4-1/2 billion bd. ft. of lumber, nearly 2 billion sq. ft. of particle board, 750 million sq. ft. of softwood plywood, nearly 5 billion sq. ft. of hardwood plywood, and 285 million sq. ft. of hardboard in the United States.
