Physical and mechanical performance tests of “Plaswood” gave the following results: Density–3/8-inch board 42.2 pounds per cubic foot; 5/8-inch board 37.3 pounds per cubic foot. Thermal conductivity–K equals 0.74 Btu per hour per square foot per inch per degree Fahrenheit, mean temperature 99?F. Tensile strength perpendicular–98 psi (3/8); 67 psi (5/8). Tensile strength parallel–826 psi (3/8); 602 psi (5/8). Compressive strength–13,383 psi, Transverse strength (flexural) dry–21 pounds (3/8); 60 pounds (5/8). Punching shear–2,415 psi (3/8); 1,403 psi (5/8). Hardness–863 pounds (3/8); 714 pounds (5/8). Linear expansion -0.45 percent (3/8); 0.34 percent (5/8). Nail holding withdrawal–18 pounds (3/8); 39 pounds (5/8). Nail holding lateral–107 pounds (3/8); 150 pounds (5/8).
