Two situations in Poland have prompted a study on the possibility of using spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) bark as part of the furnish in pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) particleboards: 1) the production of considerable amounts of?usable residues from debarking spruce logs, and 2) the difficulty the wood products industry has had in meeting the increasing demand for interior furnishings, primarily furniture. Furniture manufacture is, in turn, limited by the availability of wood-base products. In this study particleboard panels were made with bark contents between zero and 100 percent, in increments of 10 percent. Physical and mechanical test results indicated that boards suitable for furniture manufacture could be made With-up to 30 percent bark content.
