Knife wear from cutting the edges of southern pine plywood was shown to vary by the filler type used in the adhesive mixes used to bond the plywood. While no attempt was made to define heat-corrosion (chemical action) influences on the knife metals during wear, fillers with high ash and high silica content in the ash resulted in the greatest knife wear. The fillers examined were composed of pecan shell flour, furfural residue, and a blend of furfural residue and nonfurfural residue, with the pecan shell flour having the lowest incidence of knife wear.
