A laboratory method for determining the gel which might be developed in a plywood pre-press is described. Matched 12 by 12 inch panels are prepared with a glue of known performance and the test glue. Masking tape is applied to the four corners. After l minute of stand time the panel is cold pressed. Different times and pressures are used with different types of glue. The tapes are pulled at an angle of 120?. Any lifting of the veneer constitutes a failure. A rating procedure is provided, based on the behavior of the veneer with tapes of different widths. The method is recommended for screening both interior and exterior grade plywood glues.
