Methodology to Evaluate Racking Resistance of Nailed Walls

A methodology is presented for calculating racking performance of sheathed wood-stud walls. the procedure presented, each sheet of sheathing is replaced by a pair of diagonal springs; the stiffness of each spring is calculated from the stiffness of an individual nail that fastens the sheathing to the frame. The methodology allows complex wall configurations, containing window and door openings, to be analyzed quickly and easily by means of general purpose computer programs.
