Describes the equipment involved in sorting lumber, loading kiln cars, and stacking lumber at the Pickens Works of the Poinsett Lbr. & Mfg. Co. The labor required to handle a large amount of lumber is small, approximately 20 men less than before mechanization. Weather is no longer a factor in stacking and the yard is kept much neater. Permanent lumber foundations permit improved air circulation. Very little maintenance is necessary in the system described.
