The Modular Veneer Press dryer (MVP) developed at the Forest Products Laboratory combines the continuous operation of a hot air dryer with the restraint of a platen press. In matching tests done in cooperation with a mill that produces hardwood face veneers, MVP-dried veneer was significantly flatter and had less shrinkage in width than veneer dried in a conventional jet dryer. In another test, dry veneer that had buckled during conventional drying was redried and flattened in the MVP. These results should be of interest to producers of veneer as well as manufacturers of veneer dryers.
