Nondestructive Screening of Hardwood Specialty Blanks

The potential of nondestructive testing techniques for screening hardwood specialty blanks was evaluated. Several nondestructive tests were performed on four types cf hardwood specialty blanks: striking tool handles, lifting tool handles, ladder rungs, and bowling pin cores. Linear regression analysis was used to identify the best nondestructive predictions of modulus of rupture in static, rapid, and impact bending. A model sorting scheme is presented for sorting ladder rung blanks based on the static modulus of elasticity as the predictor variable.
