Two solar supplemented dry kilns which are under development use water heated by the sun to supply part of the heat to dry lumber. Provisions are made for heat storage, providing constant heat regardless of atmospheric conditions. Included in the system are a 2520 sq. ft. collector, and a storage tank for 40,000 pounds of water. Each kiln is equipped with 648 feet of heat exchanger. The system provides 44 percent of the total heat requirements for two 50 Mfbm kilns, with the balance of the heat supplied by direct-fired natural gas.
