Bandsaw blades often develop gullet cracks due to fatigue loading of the blade. In this paper, the various mechanisms that give rise to stress in operating bandsaw blades are discussed and a number of experimental results are presented. The role of such stresses in producing fatigue cracks is quantified by means of an example calculation of the fatigue life of a blade.
