Particleboard–Today and Tomorrow

The engineering of particleboard for specific end uses is a prominent factor in two general areas of application. In the construction field, particularly in housing, particleboard is in use as underlayment under resilient flooring, for exterior siding, and sliding closet doors. Often it is hidden as corestock in doors, kitchen cabinets, built-in furniture, and other products. In furniture, the principal uses are in dinette and cabinet corestock. In the future particleboard will be molded to form curved surfaces and with advances in resins it will be used for such construction uses as siding, roof decking, and partitions. The significant factor noted is the departure from the concept of an all-purpose board to that of producing boards engineered to the end uses demanded.
