Variations in physical and mechanical properties of cottonwood and hickory flakeboards made from three flake sizes were studied. The properties of MOE, MOR, FSPL, Maximum Stress in Tension and Internal Bond (IB) were significantly improved as the flake size was increased, both for the hickory and the cottonwood boards. The values of hickory flakeboards were considerably lower than the corresponding values of cottonwood flakeboards. However, both raw materials produced acceptable boards generally regardless of flake size according to the established standards. The average values for MOE and IB were, respectively, 1.36 x 106 psi and 217 psi for cottonwood, and 0.77 x 106 psi and 174 psi for hickory.
