Pinus radiata juvenile core house studs were high temperature dried in packs restrained against twist with vertically applied pressures of 110 and 220 lb./ft.2. The effects of these loads on distortion with and without a 4-hour steaming prior to drying to plasticise the wood was measured in terms of the percentage of the studs meeting grade specifications for twist. In all cases the preplasticising treatment gave better recovery particularly with the higher pressure.
