The moduli of rupture and elasticity for 1200 small, clear specimens of red oak and cottonwood were correlated and a linear regression equation was calculated for each species. Slopes of the regression lines were found to be the same, although the Y intercepts were different because of the greater density of red oak. The correlation coefficients were significant. The data will be helpful to those interested in developing working stresses for lumber grades.
