Sanding is only one step in achieving proper thickness tolerance. Thickness tolerance includes control over preparation and mixing of the board’s basic materials, spreading, and pressing techniques. Eight boards of a 100 board run were measured for thickness at 20 points. The standard deviation for 20 measured points per board before sanding ranged from 3.1 to 10. After sanding the standard deviation ranged from 1.1 to 1.9.
